Brief History:

The masjid was founded in 1993. The masjid building was previously a timbers merchant and prior to that part of a farm building dating back to medieval times. With the help of Allah, the All Mighty, the building was bought by seventeen local families who recognized the dire need for a masjid in the area. Money was raised by door to door collections up and down the country by the founding members, as well as personal loans from brothers in the community, to avoid interest bearing loans. Maulana Ibraheem and Abdul Hadi from Birmingham and most of the local community were present when the main beam holding the main hall of the masjid was erected. Brother Alyas Karmani was the first to pioneer da’wah activities in the masjid in the English language in the mid-nineties. Khuthbahs and other programmes in English have been a regular feature at the masjid ever since.

Facilities:

The masjid has two floors. The ground floor, which is used by brothers, has a main prayer hall and wudu area. The first floor is used by sisters and consists of a kitchen, wudu facilities, prayer hall where sisters’ only events are held.

Vision:

To be a welcoming place for anyone wanting to learn about Islam according to the teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah.

Current Projects:

Qur’an and Islamic Studies Madrasah for children (five days a week);

• Islamic studies and Arabic classes for children
• Classes for sisters
• Monthly events in English
• Radio receiver service allowing those unable to attend the masjid to listen to programmes live.
• Practical workshops to demonstrate wudu, prayer and ghusl.
• The khuthbah is delivered in English during all school holidays.
